OR REVIVING THE PARLOUR PERFORMANCE
I believe that poetry connects people, if not to each other then to a better part of ourselves. It is in the making and in the sharing that we find harmony and elevation. So, let us manifest a poem, let us commune together…
HERE’S WHAT WE’RE GOING TO DO
You are going to invite me to your home. And I am going to perform an epic poem for you in the old tradition, in the oral tradition, in the new tradition of breath and connection, in your front room / kitchen / attic / neighbour’s garden / shed or local taproom.
IT WILL WORK LIKE THIS
You will pick a date, contact me and I will come. The performance will last an hour.
The one condition is that you will invite a minimum of three people.
One will be rich.
One will be lonely.
One will be ‘a person of influence’.
Your rich guest will pay my expenses. Your lonely friend doesn’t have to be that lonely. Maybe they are just sad, having a rough time or just don’t have anything better to do. Your influential friend might be someone who simply has more friends than you, someone who might suggest where the poem goes next. It is possible that your influential friend is also both rich and lonely. It is also possible that this person is in fact you in which case I will perform for an audience of one.
