A MASQUE FOR BYRON

THE BYRON STATUE – LONDON

At the intersection of epic poem and verse-drama we encounter ‘Byron 200’, a new work by Jan Noble written to commemorate the Byron Bicentennial. While this piece invokes the spirit of Byron it is also an investigation into the act of ‘making poetry’ where “fluid movement rises from wild strokes”. Launched at Byron’s Statue in London, now located on an inaccessible traffic Island off Park Lane where the poet remains in exile, the work was given its world premiere in Florence at the British Institute then presented to sell out crowd at Keats-Shelley House in Rome.
